How to Play
Protagonists and Referees
To play S&S, you need a referee and two to six other players to portray the protagonists.
Players
Players inhabit the role of the story’s protagonists. To be a player, you create a protagonist that forms a team with the protagonists created by other players.
Referees
One player takes on the special role of referee. A referee is responsible for all the non-protagonist characters in the game’s world, designing and facilitating scenarios, and adjudicating the rules.
Core Gameplay Loop
In S&S, scenarios typically unfold in the following stages:
- The referee describes the scenario, including the environment and the actions of non-protagonist characters.
- The players declare what their protagonists do.
- The referee determines the results of the protagonists’ actions.

-
Round up. When a calculation results in a non-integer number, unless otherwise specified, round up to the higher nearest integer.

Specific Supersedes General.
